Arthur King Releases 'Changing Landscapes (Mina Las Pintadas)'

July 22, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA):

Today Arthur King has released the next entry to the ongoing Changing Landscapes series, Mina Las Pintadas. An experimental musical ensemble, Arthur King seeks to engage the tension between the known and unknown inherent in creative expression. Listen / purchase Changing Landscapes (Mina Las Pintadas) HERE.

Changing Landscapes (Mina Las Pintadas) is an enthralling record of pulsing and psychologically exploratory songscapes. Deep grooves tunnel through tones and sonic textures, following subterranean and psychic pathways, alternately narrowing and widening while heavily processed flute treads over aesthetic stepping stones like Jon Hassell and Holger Czukay. The grit, the grind, the stillness, the peace, the destruction, the unknown…it all came out through the musicians as they collectively played their field recordings and embarked on an unforgettable sonic journey to try and make sense of it all.

Created in the middle of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, Mina Las Pintadas is the latest installment in the Changing Landscapes series. Arthur King spent a week of field recording and filming at a copper mine. The artists drove miles deep into the mountain, witnessing digging, drilling and dynamiting, as well as the juxtaposing serenity and starkness of the “upper world." The whole experience culminated with an epic full-band performance in a large, intersecting cavern within the mine.

Fronted by artist Peter Walker, Arthur King’s music challenges modes of perception through engaging with the unknown. With improvisation and the utilization of field recordings as central tenets, AK’s music is a study in fluid adaptation, modes of consciousness and musical connectivity.
