As with Ned’s Vol. 1 (AKP040), Avitabile took the recordings from the Hawthorne broadcast back to his home in the Mojave Desert, sprinkled a few sonic additives onto the tracks, and sent them to Walker’s AKP Studio in LA for the finishing touches and mix.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhile the toolkit remains familiar, the energy is distinctly elevated. The interplay between eras is a focal point: a borrowed Moog DFAM synth pushes the trusty Roland CR-5000 into new territory, shifting between driving the rhythm and dancing in sync. “Getting gear from 1981 and 2018 to talk via MIDI was a feat,” Walker reflects, “but once they locked, it opened new dimensions.” Avitabile counters with an ever-evolving station of customized harp and treated guitar, anchored by a late-set appearance from a vintage upright piano.
