Matt Evans Announces 'Daydream Observatory'
by Scott Osgood
:: Announcing :: Daydream Observatory, a collection of ten synth-saturated, drum-driven, “zone poems” from drummer/producer Matt Evans. Orbiting the phantasmal chill-complexity of his previous records, ‘Daydream Observatory’ points its lens inwards and charts a course through a constellation of interior worlds. 🌀🔭
Inspired in part by Italo Calvino’s ‘Mr. Palomar,’ the album assembles a wide array of sonic landscapes—from lush ambient environments, to skittering percussive tumult—into a kind of character alignment chart of things light, dark, wholesome, and exasperated; contemplating the everyday balance of tragedy and comedy.
Today we begin the trip with "Wine Shop Discount RPG," a campy Dionysian cruiser blending groovy kinetic kit work and swirling synth lines. Vibing somewhere between a 90’s era Zelda cut-scene and a wandering 7th-chord chill-out room, Evans beats out an ironic theme song for the strange dreams that provide us occasional diversion from ongoing tragedies.
