Prymek & Sage Release 'Shelter'
by Scott Osgood
"stands as a landmark in their respective catalogs that helps define pastoral ambient music, offering a serene space for contemplation in an increasingly frantic world" - The Big Takeover
"the LP’s patient Polaroids vibrate with an unhurried form of life” - A Closer Listen
“an album that requires multiple, deep listens to fully discover its spirit and personality. Each spin will reward with a newly discovered detail, even if it’s a gentle wooden scuff or a natural sound creeping in” - KLOF
Shelter from Prymek & Sage is out today digitally and on limited run highlighter clear yellow vinyl. Gentle and hymn-like, deeply melodious, and patient, the album leaves plenty of room to breathe, and time and space to think.
A sprawling pastoral meditation for high elevations, Shelter was built upon first take improvisations of Chaz Prymek on electric guitar and Matthew Sage on piano. Slowly layered with sparse overdubs – yearning slide guitar, accordion, clarinet, recorder, and delicate synthesizers – cloudy billows of melody and texture explore a shimmering strain of ambient jazz and americana across five contemplative tracks.
Prymek and Sage have an established catalog together, but something about Shelter feels like both a new chapter and a benchmark for both of their practices. This new document of their ongoing friendship contains the influence of years of sonic and artistic explorations, immense life changes, cross country moves, and all the warmth a sunbeam can bring along the way.
