St. Silva Releases "Here Alone"
by Scott Osgood
Forager from St. Silva is out digitally and on limited edition cassette July 17th. Today we are thrilled to share another peak at this gentle record with the track “Here Alone”.
“As one of the more melodic and rhythmic pieces on the album, "Here Alone" feels like a window to the past,” shares St. Silva. “It evokes a sort of nostalgia and child-like curiosity for me. The repeating synth sequence is the heart of the song, moving it forward. As it progresses, new creatures, both digital and synthetic, wander in and out of frame. Sonically, I was hoping to call back to a specific time in electronic music with this song, specifically the 1980s environmental music boom. I remember the first time I listened to Hiroshi Yoshimura's GREEN album and falling in love with those bell-like Yamaha DX7 type sounds, something about the pureness of tone that I tried to recreate on my modular synth. There's a sort of innocence there I think, just following a melody on and on, noticing what else might join you along the way. Something I hope I'll never grow tired of.”
Forager was crafted during a year-long process of documenting, sorting, and re-collaging material. Using a combination of tape loops, modular synthesis, field recording, and melodic synth lines, St. Silva offers a sun-drenched nostalgia where faded memories waft over analog-saturated synthetic forests.
