Diaphanous, soothing, and atmospheric, seasons in migration blends tranquil synth pads, subtle field recordings, and electric piano with soaring flute and saxophone lines. The foundation of seasons is built on a 12-chord progression divided into 4 groups of chords— each group pertaining to a respective calendrical phase. Striking a balance between intention and letting go, improvisation fills much of the remaining aural structure of the album.

The samples on seasons in migration were taken over a 6 year period, amongst various environments, and elicit a distinct connection to the four seasons. “As I added environmental field recordings to the arrangement and started to record sax and flute, I noticed the project had assumed a strong sense of elemental energy,” shares bu.re_. “There was a lot of wind, which gave me the impression of change / migration / movement of time.”

The movement of time became the emerging central theme for the artist to further tease out. “Historically, seasons have provided us with a sense of the movement of time, with birth and death. beginning cycles that help us thrive; ending cycles that cause us suffering,” says bu.re_, “this album serves as a reminder of that movement.” Beginnings and endings expressed in shimmering, feathery tones; warm naturalistic soundscapes with a persisting levity of hope.

Fans of Hiroishi Yoshimura’s Wetlands as well as Harold Budd’s The Pavillion of Dreams will find much to enjoy on this succinct trip around the sun. Fleeting and evanescent, seasons in migration is a beautiful soundscape that evaporates just as you settle into it.
